The Other Brother

I’ve mentioned my family (brothers, parents and extended family) a few times in previous posts and their contributions to the movie. And while other members of the crew and cast had family drop by set on a couple of occasions, there was one other brother who played an integral part in the production.

The films camera department consisted of our cinematography duo, Raubyn and Lara. And to assist them they brought Lara’s brother, Jeremy, along for the ride. He became the film’s swing man, and by that I mean he handled electrical, gaffer duty, grip, camera assist, driver and many more positions. He also got in front of the camera as a stand in when we realized we needed an actor in the background of a shot who had been sent home 2 days beforehand.

The addition of Jeremy to the set did a number of things. First it made the family atmosphere of the production more than just my family welcoming in a bunch of disparate folks. Raubyn, Lara and Jeremy had an in place personal dynamic that sort of allowed them as a unit to meld into the larger contingent of my family. Not that the rest of the crew had an issue doing that individually. Secondly I think it allowed for a variant stress conduit for Raubyn and Lara. Large chunks (read that as pretty much all) of the shoot was stressful and having more than one familiar face to endure that stress with helps, at least in my opinion, rather than having to bounce it back and forth with one other person.

Then there was just the fun of watching how best Jeremy could be utilized on set.
