I’ve got the woods and I can build a cabin in those woods, but things have to be sorted out before I can start construction.
EXT. ROAD – NIGHT; is the location for the first scene of the movie. Essentially it is our main characters traveling along a secluded road, deep in the woods, headed for our cabin.
The ideal location for this is a nice little path that connects two fields on the property. For the last 5 or so years though that path has been completely blocked by a few small trees and one large tree which some storms saw fit to blow over into my road. And for farming purposes cleaning up the path was a low priority as there is another way to get between the fields. Now though I need my shooting location.
It was a fairly straightforward afternoon. A bit of chainsaw work, both to chop up the fallen trees in the would be road and also to open up a clearing alongside the road a little more where the cabin will wind up being built. Then a tractor with the front end loader on it to push the blockages into a couple piles. Lastly a little bit of kindling and goodbye road blocks.
This was the first step at one out of about six or seven locations that will need similar attention. There are also a number of locations I’ve scouted that will work as is, just a matter of showing up lighting, blocking and shooting (preferably the first 2 way ahead of shooting). But I’m gonna have a labor intensive spring and summer to get all my locations camera ready.
