So, after writing a script and planning and working for nearly two years I directed a movie. As of this writing that movie is still being edited and we are working through post production. But with a little time on my hands I want to write about my experience.
This blog was meant to sort of catalog the process of making my independent film, but as you might notice there is a pretty significant gap between the last post and this one. ‘What happened?’ you might ask. Its a rather simple answer, I got busy making the movie. The next post will detail how this blog was left to dry up, but for now let me briefly outline what I hope to do over the next few months in writing here.
Basically I’ll try and give my own personal dos and don’ts as I think back on what worked and what didn’t in my film making endeavor. In some of what will come please do not think I view my experience negatively. I think it best to share and detail the projects missteps and shortcomings, so as to help others maybe avoid or prepare for the things that I stumbled on.
Essentially I see three types of postings; a few personal ones (how I feel about the film, the process, the larger industry), a number of posts aiming to inform others based on my mistakes or my lack of foresight, and then some upbeat posts about the joys of cheap ass film making.
Ideally I keep it fresh here weekly or perhaps a little more frequent than that. Again I had hoped to do that before , but this time I don’t have quite as much shit that is aiming to take over my life.
